Position Summary
This part-time position involves delivering and helping to develop, fun, engaging family literacy programs in the Elk Valley including Family Fun-time for Newcomers, and a new multi-generational program for teens and seniors.
Qualifications and Attributes
- Experience working with children and their caregivers
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lead crafts, games, and activities
- Ability to keep accurate records
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Empathy, patience, and a positive attitude
- A passion for literacy
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Valid First Aid and FoodSafe certifications will be considered assets
- Valid BC Driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver literacy programs to children and their caregivers as well as teens and seniors
- Set up and take down program sites as needed – may need to move tables, chairs, and equipment
- Create a safe, inclusive, and fun environment for participants.
- Develop and/or adapt session activities to encourage meaningful interactions and align with program objectives.
- Attend professional development sessions, and staff meetings as required
- Ensure required participant documents are completed and submitted to coordinator
Hours & Wages
This position is part-time and the hours will be varied. Hours are estimated to be 3 – 6 hrs/week during the winter terms. Hours may work into more depending on availability, interest, and skill set. Starting wage is $23.50 per hour.
